Some of the heaviest snow I have ever seen fall in North Carolina, as far as snowfall rates go, occurred with a deformation band in the early morning hours of 3/3/10 (Approx. 2" per hour at times). This was in association with a major storm bombing out off the North Carolina coastline. At least 6" fell at the intersection of US-1 and 15-501 in Sanford, NC in Lee County by the time I left the location. Unfortunately just a little further south on US-1 I was stuck in one spot for 3 hours as a truck and car were stuck on an incline blocking the road. It took a very long time to clear that mess on fully snow packed roads and it was there I saw numerous power flashes as the snow and wind downed tree limbs and power lines.
